[PRESS RELEASE]
VONORE, Tenn. Dec. 11, 2014 – Leading biomass supply company, Genera Energy Inc., has received a strategic financing commitment from WindSail Capital Group, a Boston-based investment firm that provides growth financing to companies advancing energy innovation and sustainability.
WindSail Capital’s investment will provide Genera with the resources to continue its global expansion by helping scale its energy crop production and supply chain operations, further expand the portfolio of biomass feedstocks and geographies it covers, and expand the working capital of the company as a whole.
“We look forward to working with the WindSail Capital team, and we appreciate their recognition of the complexity and value of the upstream supply of biomass for a variety of fast growing bio-based markets,” said Kelly Tiller, Ph.D., CEO and president of Genera Energy Inc.
”We see Genera Energy as building the key supply chain infrastructure to help accelerate the bioenergy industry,” said Michael Rand, co-founder of WindSail Capital Group. “As a services business with a market leading position and strong growth prospects, Genera is a terrific fit for our type of capital.”
Genera’s extensive experience working in diverse regions and climates with a wide range of both perennial and annual energy crops as well as ag residues and woody crops allows Genera to develop customized supply chain solutions tailored to its customers’ specific project requirements. Genera’s industrial approach to agriculture and its experience at scale are a unique offering in the marketplace.
“This financing is not just a significant achievement for Genera, but an important milestone for the bio-based economy as a whole,” said Tiller. “For more than a decade we’ve seen focused attention and resulting improvements in the advanced technologies that unlock the potential of abundant and renewable biomass resources to produce fuels, chemicals, materials, power and products. As these proven technologies are now moving from labs to full production scale, there’s a growing recognition that the economic competitiveness and true sustainability of the bioeconomy hinge on the cost and reliability of the upstream supply of biomass. Having experienced and well capitalized companies like Genera delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable biomass supply solutions accelerates our move to a cleaner and more responsible energy future.”
