In the biomass industry, safety is a key focus. The precautions we take are not only to ensure the safety of our employees but the safety of our community as well. One way we continuously monitor our safety programs is through safety audits.
Safety audits are targeted, short inspections that are performed weekly to ensure we keep our work place, employees and our equipment safe. Employees are paired and assigned specific dates and works areas of the operation to audit. All employees, from office, to processing, to laborers are involved in audits. Each team is provided with a checklist to evaluate employee and site safety, including personal protective gear utilization, site hazards, or unsafe behaviors. Employees are trained on what to look for, how to constructively help one another by pointing out safety issues, and how to remedy issues on the spot. The audits are a friendly way to hold each other accountable for our safety.
Audit results are tracked, keeping us aware of trending safety habits we need to improve. Our safety audits are mandatory as we believe that these audits help to identify problems or concerns of employees to create a safe work environment. These results audits are analyzed in regular departmental safety meetings as well as the company wide safety meetings. Our goal is to have zero safety issues and have full compliance companywide with our safety programs and policies. Ultimately, our overall goal is to increase awareness and promote a safe work environment.
For Genera Energy, safety auditing is only one of the steps we take to promote safety. We also have daily meetings within departments and each department has daily checklist for work space and equipment. Our safety motto is “Safety is more than a slogan, it’s a way of life. Live with it!”
